Practical help for the home orchardist |
|
About MeI have lived in Bridgton, Maine since May ’92
with my wife of 19 years and three beautiful, intelligent and
active teenagers. When not in the orchard you may find me cheering on the
Lake Region Lakers (remember, three active teenagers), working on our 100+
year old home or at one of Bridgton’s great town beaches. My apple growing career stared in college in the
late 70’s. I was inspired by the “back to the land” movement in high
school, and pursued a degree in Agriculture. I earned an associates
degree, majoring in Fruit and Vegetable Crops, at the Stockbridge School
of Agriculture in 1981. There I made the Dean’s List and was a Leer
Scholar. I
have worked in the apple business ever since.
I have managed (read manager as: chief cook and bottle washer)
commercial orchards in Maine for the last eleven years. Currently the
orchard under management is only twelve acres. At one time there were 120
acres under my management (can you say burned out?), twelve acres I can do
standing on my head. If
you would like to see the “fruits of my labor”, please visit the Mt.
Tire’m Cider Mill on Plummer Hill Road in beautiful Waterford Maine. If
all goes well I’ll be pressing cider Saturday afternoons (September-
November) starting at 1:00. |
